(1) Use a frame with a shadow box style - deep set, where the glass is removeable because you won't need it anyways. I got mine for $10 at Marshalls.
(2) Boil your corks in a pot over the stove for a few minutes, this helps remove all the wine residue and preserves their texture and appearance.
(3) Line a baking sheet with foil and immediately bake the corks on low heat (200F) for a few minutes [or until dry].
(4) Lay out your corks in the frame first, prior to using any glue, to get an idea of if you'll need to cut any to fit the frame. I kept an exacto knife handy, as you'll notice I needed to trim a few when I reached the end.
(5) Cut small pieces of cork to glue to the back of the frame to position it flush against the wall after its hung. Hang yours first and then decide if this step is necessary for you.

What a cool idea, I love up-cycling things!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. My boyfriend and I save corks as well. On each cork we write the date of the special occasions that we enjoyed the wine!
ReplyDeleteThis is really neat! Great idea.
